A little background on Stourport:

Stourport formed around the canal basins of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. In the 1760's, the population of Stourport was only 12 but this quickly rose to over 1300 in 1795, it was noted by John Wesley in 1771 as a "well built village" but in 1788 he mentioned the amounts of houses that had been built and streets that had cropped up, along with the increased trade coming into the growing town. A cast iron bridge was built over the River Severn in 1870, it currently carries the A451 road and was refurbished in 2007.
